21-Mar-08: As
described in Hank W0RLI's first link below, "SNOS -- Simple Network Operating
System -- is software to link tcp/ip into the existing AX.25 BBS store
and forward network. SNOS gateways Bulletins to and from News
Articles and Email to and from Personal Messages. SNOS is run on
a junker DOS machine."
As per the 2nd link below, as of this post, the
most current version is SNOS 1.6, built in March 2008.
Outpost users
on SNOS BBSs must be registered and set up as EXPERTS. The
following F6FBB commands should be executed during a manual BBS session
before using Outpost.
Registration
BBS Commands
First
time users may be prompted to register with the BBS with one or more
registration commands. If this is the case, the user may be
continuously reminded to register every time you log on until you do
so. The
commands are:
N
: Shows your WhitePages information, or sets your name.
N
<name> : sets or modifies your name.
NH
<bbs> : sets or modifies your home BBS.
NQ
<qth> : sets or modifies the city.
Paging
Command
You must turn Paging off.
This "feature" was originally built into many BBSs to accommodate a time when we used dumb terminals that didn't have much display memory and we didn't want messages to fly by w/o seeing the text. Manually log on to the BBS, and enter the command here.
NL
<n> : sets pause after "n" lines.
SET
"NL 0" for no pause.
Outpost
Notes:
IMPLEMENTATION SID = [SNOS-1.4-HIX$] Outpost looks for the "[SNOS" phrase of the SID as the means
for identifying this
BBS.
CONFIRMATION Pending release, tentatively planned as part of a v2.2.2
distribution.
CONSIDERATIONS 1. Outpost will
automatically determine the BBS prompt for a SNOS BBS.
